Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Birthday Reminder ("the app", "we", "us") handles information. We built the app to be private by default: the people and dates you save stay on your device. Please read this alongside our Terms of Service.

1. Information we collect

We keep this to the minimum needed to run the service:

• Google account email & name — only if you choose to sign in with Google. Sign-in is optional; you can use the app without it.
• Anonymous device identifier — a random ID generated on install, so we can recognise the installation (not you personally) across requests.
• Device & app details — device model, operating-system version and app version, to keep the app working and to diagnose problems.
• Approximate country — derived from your network, used for regional settings and analytics. We do not collect precise location.
• Push token (FCM) — a Firebase Cloud Messaging token so we can deliver reminders and announcements.
• Subscription purchase tokens — when you buy Premium, the purchase token is verified server-side with Google Play to confirm your subscription status.
• Advertising ID — collected by Google AdMob to show ads on the free tier (see “Third-party services” below). Premium removes ads.

2. What we do NOT collect

• We do not upload or store your saved birthdays, anniversaries, notes or photos.
• We do not upload your contacts. Contact/calendar access (if granted) is used on-device only, at the moment you import.
• We do not collect precise (GPS) location.
• We do not sell your personal information.

3. How we use information

• To deliver reminders and announcements (push token).
• To unlock and maintain Premium (purchase tokens, subscription status).
• To show ads on the free tier (advertising ID, via AdMob).
• To keep the app reliable and improve it (device/app details, approximate country, anonymous analytics).
• To respond to your support and data-deletion requests (email you contact us from).

4. Third-party services

Some features rely on trusted third parties, each with its own privacy policy:

• Google Play Billing — processes Premium purchases. We receive your subscription status, not your card details.
• Google AdMob — serves ads on the free tier and may use your advertising ID. See Google's partner & privacy policies. Where required, we ask for your consent first and you may choose non-personalised ads.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers push notifications.
• Affiliate links — gift suggestions may link to Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra and similar stores. Tapping a link opens that store in your browser, where their privacy policies apply. These may be affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

5. Data security

All network traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we handle.

On-device data stays until you delete it or uninstall the app. For the limited data we do handle:

7. Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.

8. Your choices

• Sign-in: optional — use the app without a Google account.
• Ads: choose non-personalised ads where consent is asked; Premium removes ads entirely.
• Permissions: grant or revoke contacts, calendar and notification access any time in your device settings.
• Delete everything: use “Delete all data” in the app, or request server-side deletion via our Delete Account page.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
